Korean-Style Custom Cakes in London

Korean cake design has a distinctive aesthetic — clean lines, delicate florals, and restrained palettes that let the craftsmanship speak for itself. At Danine Cakes, based in Streatham, South London, we bring Korean patisserie techniques to custom celebration cakes for birthdays, weddings, and every occasion in between.

What makes a Korean cake different?

Where traditional British celebration cakes often rely on fondant and dense sponge, Korean cakes take a lighter approach. The sponge — known as cotton cake — is airier and more delicate, while the decoration tends toward minimalism: glossy buttercream, subtle florals, and clean finishes. There is no thick fondant shell, no heavy icing. Just beautiful, restrained craft.

The style originates from South Korean patisseries — particularly in Seoul — where cake design is treated as an art form. We bring that same sensibility to every custom order, whether it's a birthday, a wedding, or a special milestone.

Korean buttercream cakes — made to order

Our Korean buttercream cakes use smooth Italian meringue buttercream, piped and finished in a style inspired by the Gangnam patisserie scene. The result is delicate, glossy, and architectural — worlds apart from the dense, sweet buttercream typical of most UK bakers.

Every cake is made to order. We work with you on the design — whether you want a minimalist cake with a single floral accent, an intricate piped pattern, or something completely bespoke.

Korean cotton sponge — lighter, airier, more delicate

The Korean cotton sponge is based on a traditional East Asian chiffon method — whipped egg whites folded into a light batter, baked low and slow. The result is a sponge that's noticeably lighter and more delicate than a standard Victoria sponge, with a soft, pillowy texture that holds cream fillings beautifully.

We also offer a gluten-free version using authentic Korean rice flour, which produces a similar lightness without the chewiness typical of most gluten-free cakes. It's the closest you'll get to the original cotton sponge experience without wheat.

Korean minimalist cake design

If you want a cake without heavy fondant decorations — something clean, sophisticated, and genuinely beautiful — the Korean minimalist approach delivers exactly that. Think smooth buttercream finishes with a subtle texture, a single dried flower, a ribbon, or hand-piped script. Nothing excessive. Everything intentional.

Our gallery includes dome cakes, heart-shaped cakes, and rectangular styles — all finished in this restrained aesthetic. Available in round, heart, square, and more.
